This book had interesting points on studying anthropology. It focused more on human understanding of the world around them when studying anthropology and how it impacts communities and oneself while studying this field. Below are some points I found interesting while reading this book:

  • Anthropology is a study of diversity, which is of interest to everyone in some way.

  • Even beyond field studies and through the internet, we have access to a wealth of anthropological knowledge from ancestors and elders.

  • "Possibilities of human difference" highlight the varied ways humans can differ from one another.

  • While studying, it is important to set aside prejudice and respect new ways of thinking and behavior. With this understanding, the world can become a safer place.

  • Very small numbers of genes make us different; anthropology’s bio-genetics department researches how similar we are. → "Cultural allegiance through our bodies"

  • Anthropology helps you understand yourself better.

  • Humans have two main characteristics: thinking and communicating.

  • We need a language from the very start, which allows us to understand other cultures.

  • Every cultural group has different ways of classifying the world around them.
